Toronto Drug Awareness Coalition - Youth Co-ordinator, Part-Time


The Toronto Drug Awareness Coalition is hiring a youth co-ordinator who will take on 2 concurrent projects over the next 6 months. The coordinator is responsible for the development of radio public service announcements with and for secondary school students on safer graduation parties. Also, the co-ordinator will implement a forum for service providers geared to the promotion of harm reduction messages for youth and parents. An Advisory Committee from TDAC will support and provide supervision for the co-ordinator.



Responsibilities:

Project A: Development of 3-5 Radio PSAs (release May, 2001)

- to outreach to graduating youth to plan a series of 3-5 radio PSAs on "Safer Graduation" planning

- to meet with youth-centred radio stations to elicit support

- to facilitate a small group of youth to develop the content of the ads

- to develop and implement ads. including accessing writer/director, actors, recording space

- to promote the use of the ads. with secondary schools and radio stations

(Support will be given by the Advisory Committee)



Project B: Organization of a one-day forum for service providers on the promotion of harm reduction to parents and youth (March/April, 2001)

- to design, implement and evaluate a one-day forum for service providers on the promotion of harm reduction to parents and youth

- to administer the forum including venue, catering and speakers

- to co-ordinate the content of the forum including plenary and workshops

- to promote the conference with service providers

Qualifications:

- knowledge of and interest in harm reduction

- home-based office (own computer/telephone). Administrative support (for mailings, fax, copying and project-related long distance calls) covered by TDAC

- able to establish links with youth and parent groups

- knowledge of event co-ordination

- creative thinker, geared to youth culture

- experience in small group facilitation

- able to manage a small budget

- able to work flexible hours

- able to begin October 26 or shortly thereafter



Part-time contract, based on an hourly rate of $12-$15 per hour. Expected hours: 12 hours per week.
