The Ottawa Charter on Health Promotion

written in 1986 at the first international conference on health promotion provides a broad definition of HP, the prerequisites for health, three basic requirements of advocacy, enabling and mediating differing interests. Health promotion action is seen as necessary in policy, supportive environments, community action, personal skills and reorienting health services. This copy of the Charter is posted at the World Health Organization's European Region Policy web-site. Other copies can be found at the Health Promotion Research Internet Network [Sweden] and Monash University
