Best Settlement Practices- Settlement Services for Refugees and Immigrants in Canada

by Canadian Council for Refugees, February 1998

The purpose of this document is to present an overview of settlement services and in particular to identify some of the elements that are generally agreed to make for successful settlement programs. These elements, or "best practices", flow out of our understanding of the nature and challenges of settlement and of the role of settlement services in the process. For this reason our "best practice guidelines" are preceded by a detailed account of the context in which settlement services are offered. Guidelines for diversity and diversity training are included in best practices.
