In this workshop, participants will explore the complex realities of children and adolescents in care. Often these children have endured overwhelming experiences in early childhood and develop dissociation as a pervasive means of coping. Clinicians and caregivers must address the challenging and often confusing presentations and behaviours that interfere with daily functioning, creating chaos and disruption in the family home or placement.
By the end of this training you will be able to:
- Describe key characteristics of traumatic dissociation, related behaviours and responses
- Use strategies to engage and form helping relationships with children and adolescents with chronic trauma and disrupted attachment
- Manage and respond to the challenging behaviours exhibited by these children and adolescents
