PHO’s new Interactive Opioid Tool allows you to explore long-term trends for opioid-related data on emergency department visits, hospitalizations and deaths: http://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/DataAndAnalytics/Pages/Opioid.aspx?....
This is the first tool in Ontario to provide data at the PHU and LHIN levels. This will help inform action at the local and provincial level, and evaluate the impact of policies and interventions.
- There has been a steady increase in opioid-related harms in Ontario for more than a decade.
- Since 2003, the number of deaths has increased 94 per cent
- More than 700 Ontarians died from opioid-related causes in 2015.
PHO provides scientific and technical support to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and local public health units responding to opioid-related harms. This tool supports Ontario’s comprehensive opioid strategy.
