The CIHR Social Research Centre in HIV Prevention (SRC) at the University of Toronto is a Canadian interdisciplinary network of academic and community researchers, public health practitioners, policy makers and community leaders committed to advancing HIV prevention efforts through novel approaches to social science research, capacity building and knowledge transfer and exchange (KTE).

The SRC is currently seeking a qualified research assistant in the GTA area to help administer the project “CBR and ethics of research – creating community products to promote ethical research practices with people who use illicit drugs (PWUIDs)”.  Under the supervision of the project leads, the successful candidate will provide assistance to the national research team primarily by doing a literature (scoping) review, coordinating meetings/teleconferences and communications, supporting the development of research report, coordinating efforts in the field, and preparing communiqués and publications. This position offers exceptional students an exciting opportunity to engage and contribute to innovative HIV research practice led by the SRC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordination of research team, consultative and staff meetings and communications
  • Carrying out a comprehensive literature review, taking meeting notes and following up with the team
  • Coordination of field research activities for the project (arranging informant interviews, meetings with peer researchers, and group consultations)
  • Assist in writing of manuscripts, developing/preparation of research grants and reports
  • Other tasks as may be required.


  • Masters Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or Social Sciences, or a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.Sc.) with relevant research experience
  • Effective project management, research and organizational skills
  • Experience with literature review, data collection, entry, and analysis
  • Computer skills in Refworks or another bibliographic software package. and Microsoft Office is essential
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with HIV-related research and/or research with people who use illicit drugs
