Organizations are sued every day. Unlike our traffic laws, in most employment-law employers are assumed guilty and must prove their innocence or "due diligence." Often it is the innocent lack of awareness that gets organizations in trouble. As supervisors and HR professionals we are responsible for managing within the framework of employment law. Whether in relation to terminations, hiring, providing employment contracts, performance management, working conditions and general policy and practices, ignorance is not bliss.

UNBF Conference to Examine the Determinants of Health in Atlantic Canada

The health status of Atlantic Canadians and the factors that determine that status will be examined at a conference on Friday, June 6, at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.



The Determinants of Health: An Atlantic Perspective, organized by the UNB Centre for Policy Studies, will be held at the Wu Conference Centre from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Supreme Court of Canada Hearing on Corporal Punishment

Sections: 

On Friday, June 6, the Supreme Court of Canada will hear a constitutional challenge to section 43 of the Criminal Code. This 1892 section of the Code justifies corporal punishment of children in the name of correction and is being challenged by the Canadian Foundation for Children, Youth and the Law (CFCYL) as a violation of the Charter. The Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies, the Child Welfare League of Canada and the Quebec Human Rights Commission have intervened to support the CFCYL.

Online Facilitator, Women's Health Matters/Femmes en sante Website

The Women's Health Matters/Femmes en sante Website is looking for a bilingual individual (Fr/E) to manage and massage the online Discussion Groups at Le Club, http://www.womenshealthmatters.ca/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi. We anticipate this will involve seven to eight hours of work per week, spread throughout the work week. Work can be done at home.
