The Department, Division and its Strategy

Working within Health Services (Peel Public Health) and reporting to the Manager of Communicable Disease Control (CDC), you will support the Division's mandate to provide reportable disease investigation and outbreak management in accordance with the applicable legislative authorities, primarily the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

The Team You Will Lead

You will supervise a team of public health nurses, a health promotion officer and administrative support staff.  The team is responsible for management and distribution of publicly funded vaccines as well as case management of communicable diseases and vaccine preventable diseases.

Your Role

As Supervisor, you will be required to recruit, coach, motivate, train and evaluate employees while ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources. You will also implement and evaluate programs under the Mandatory Programs and Services Guidelines specifically related to control of infectious diseases (including Hepatitis A, B and C).  A working knowledge of standards related to Tuberculosis Control and Vaccine Preventable Diseases will assist you with occasional team coverage within the division.

In collaboration with Surveillance, Communicable Diseases and Environmental Health teams, you will plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the delivery of services using the provincial iPHIS program, and other in house data systems. You will prepare and monitor the budget and assist in establishing work plans for the team, performance targets and operational objectives in order to meet departmental requirements.

In addition, you will ensure adherence to applicable legislations, practices and standards set out in the department's Service Strategy Business Plan and employee satisfaction action plan objectives. You will participate on applicable departmental, inter-health unit and interagency committees as required. You will also consult on the development of policy and collaborate related to infection control programs in institutions including hospitals, long term care facilities, child care centres, schools and other community agencies or organizations.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelors of Nursing degree combined with a minimum of five (5) years Public Health work experience combined with communicable disease control experience. The candidate will be results focused, customer/client focused and will demonstrate the ability to lead, manage and motivate a multidisciplinary team. You will require a working knowledge of Regional policies/practices, Provincial legislation/standards and have excellent skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation. You will demonstrate strong research, analytical and presentation skills.

Well developed communication skills (both verbal and written) are required.  Your excellent problem solving/decision making skills will assist you in managing the day to day operations of the team. The ability to build and maintain partnerships, negotiate and resolve conflict with internal stakeholders are key functions of this position.

Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential. Organizational and administrative skills including budget preparation and expenditure monitoring are required. An aptitude in database management, quality control and data reporting is required in order to ensure Provincial and health unit targets are maintained accurately.
