The Department, Division and its Strategy
Working within the Health Department (Public Health) and reporting to the Manager, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, you will support the Division's mandate to deliver programs related to comprehensive workplace health and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Mandatory Program and Services Guidelines.
The Team You Will Lead
You will supervise a multi-disciplinary team that includes health promotion officers, registered nurses and dieticians, public health nurses, clerical staff and volunteers. The team provides a variety of services related the provision of comprehensive workplace health strategies. This includes providing workplace health consultation services, conducting on site employee risk assessment through the HeartMobile, developing and distributing materials and tools to increase uptake of comprehensive workplace programs and providing skill building initiatives.
As Supervisor, you will be required to recruit, coach, motivate and evaluate employees while ensuring efficient utilization of resources. Organizational and administrative skills are essential. You will plan, implement and evaluate programs related to comprehensive workplace health. You will prepare and monitor the team budget, establish work plans, develop performance targets and operational objectives in order to meet departmental requirements.
Strong problem solving and decision making skills are necessary for success. You will ensure adherence to practices and standards set out in the Department's Service Strategy Business Plan and BEST (Building Employee Satisfaction Together) objectives.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential in order for you to communicate effectively with your Manager, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP) Director of CDIP, Supervisory team, direct reports and other Departmental staff. Written reports must be technical, factual and statistically sound. You will be required to liaise with other public health jurisdictions, boards of trade, business professionals and community agencies throughout the region and province. Political awareness, tact and diplomacy are essential.
The successful candidate will hold a health related degree from a recognized university combined with a minimum of three years public health experience. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles, best practices and theories related to workplace health and health promotion is required. You must have a working knowledge of Regional policies/practices, Provincial standards and have excellent skills in program planning, implementation and evaluation. You will demonstrate strong research, analytical and presentation skills.
