The  has an opening for a temporary (until May 31, 2007) Tobacco
Enforcement Officer in our Smiths Falls Office; To provide enforcement
activities related to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.   Flexible
working hours may be required.

Required Qualifications        

  • Certified Public Health Inspector, or individual with a college
    diploma in Security and Law Enforcement, or equivalent education and
    experience (e.g. retired police officer).
  • Three (3) years recent experience in Ontario in law enforcement or prosecution techniques.
  • Qualified to become designated as a Provincial Offences Officer.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and weekends.    
  • Familiarity, proficiency and comfort working with Windows 2000, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs.
  • Experience using GIS an asset.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, flexibility and excellent "people" skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and with other community agencies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's licence.
  • Use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Criminal Record Check.

Salary:  (35 hours per week)

Certified Public Health Inspector:  $48,832 to $56,158 Annual (1.0
FTE), plus twelve percent in lieu of benefits, and vacation pay,
depending on status.

Tobacco Enforcement Officer:  $20.00 per hour ($36,400 
Annual 1.0 FTE), plus twelve percent in lieu of benefits, and vacation
pay, depending on status.
