Health Promotion Officer (2 Positions), Environmental Health, Waterloo Region Community Health Department

Brief Description of Duties

Plans and implements health promotion programs and program components for a broad range of environmental health issues and topics. Strategies include education, community mobilization, community development and capacity building, social marketing, media advocacy. Facilitates interagency collaboration and coalition building for the purpose of co-ordinated program planning and evaluation. Assists in preparation of annual operational plans. Advocates and develops healthy public policy at local, provincial and federal levels. Prepares funding proposals in collaboration with community partners. Reviews research for program planning. Designs and coordinates program evaluation activity, collects and analyses data, recommends program modifications, disseminates research findings. Other related duties as assigned.



Current Assignment in Environmental Health

Responsible for replying to environmental health issues in the community and program and policy development for air quality, water quality, contaminated sites and land use issues. Knowledge of toxicology would be an asset for this position.



Qualifications, Skills, Abilities Required

Thorough working knowledge of health behaviours and behaviour change, health policy and policy development, health promotion program development with an environmental health focus, community development, social marketing and evaluation research, in an environmental health related field, normally acquired through a Masters level degree in the area of health studies, health promotion or health policy, with a minimum of one year directly related practicum or one year of directly related work experience. An equivalent combination of related education and work experience will be considered. Able to travel to various locations.



SALARY/WAGE RATE: $44,899 - 51,015 per annum/$24.67 - 28.03 per hour (under review)
