This committee of the ODA examined access to dental care for the homebound, disadvantaged and the institutionalized and proposed suggestions to enhance access for these populations. Study methods included a review of literature and consultation with dentists. The report cites the trend towards de-institutionalization and community-based health care. Patients for whom access to dental care is most problematic include those who are physically, mentally or medically compromised. These groups are at higher risk for the development of oral disease.
