Sun Sense Registration for 2017-18 School Year Now Open, Canadian Cancer Society

Despite being highly preventable, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in Canada and it is on the rise. Research indicates that childhood exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a contributing factor to the development of skin cancer later in life, and that schools can play a major role in both minimizing students' exposure to UVR and positively influencing student behaviour by establishing routines that foster healthy, safe enjoyment of the outdoors.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Sun Sense program provides direct support to schools to create a sun safe environment by providing them with tools and resources to develop sun safety policies, to educate about sun safe practices, promote behaviour change and enhance shade on the school yard.
