Motherisk Update 2009
SickKids Hospital, Hollywood Threatre, 555 University Avenue
Preparing for Pregnancy--Selected Topics in Preconception Health
This program meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family
Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for up to 6.0 Mainpro-M1
credits.
The most important prenatal counseling a woman and her partner may get
is the information and guidance offered by primary healthcare providers
before pregnancy. And though a woman who is thinking about getting
pregnant may focus primarily on specific concerns about pre-existing
health conditions such as hypertension and thyroid, other medical and
lifestyle determinants will also influence her pregnancy and birth outcome.
This Motherisk Update will present case studies pertaining to
preconception health and care, from our unique perspective as one of
the world's leading teratogen research and counseling programs.
This year's learning objectives:
- Update delegates on management of maternal health conditions,
including diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension and obesity; - Present new research findings on selected environmental exposures;
- Provide information on alcohol screening and nicotine replacement therapy in pregnancy.
Question and answer periods throughout the day will open the floor to
delegates for comment and additional discussion of these and other
reproductive health issues.
